Well-meaning laws (or: I'm not a libertarian, but...)

Yesterday, a law went into effect banning using cell phones and other "wireless communication devices" while driving.  Out of protest, I made a silly comment to my Twitter account claiming that I was driving as I was posting it.  (I actually just pressed one button on my phone as I was turning into my driveway, and typed the rest after I stopped my car... just so it would be "technically" true.)  To my surprise (because I didn't realize anyone actually reads my Twitter posts), a bunch of people threw a fit.  So, to anyone that was offended:  It was meant as a joke, but my opposition to this law is very real.

Sunny Day Real Estate returns!

My favorite band, Sunny Day Real Estate, kicked off their 2009 reunion tour on Wednesday, September 16th with an unannounced secret show at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma, WA. Even though word only spread by a few blog posts and Twitter updates, the place was packed to see SDRE play for the first time in nine years, and the first time with the original lineup in 15 years.

Harvey Danger farewell show, 2009 August 29

Harvey Danger played their last show in Seattle last night.  Set one was a regular set of songs, set two was all requests, and the encore featured a new song that should eventually be available for download on harveydanger.com.  As a band I've followed since one of their first Seattle shows, I can say it's sad to see them go, but last night was a great celebration of their music.  Set list and a picture below.

RiffTrax live in theaters!

Continuing the new trend of live broadcasts to theaters, RiffTrax (which is essentially the three main actors from the SciFi-channel-era MST3K) will be doing a live riff of Plan 9 From Outer Space to be shown in theaters across the country.

What the... he's not being funny!

Here's my new favorite (or maybe, "favorite new") senator. On substance, this speech was perfect. I am glad to see that Democrats are pushing back against the idea that "strict interpretation of laws" = "conservative" and "judicial activism" = "liberal." The Rehnquist-led court ruled against established precedent many times.

Now, on style...

Okay, I'm finally doing this

After months of screwing around, tweaking dumb settings, testing things out, going to work on the site but then getting distracted and doing something else, I'm finally ready to start writing stuff in here.
